Featured Essential oil:
Clary Sage Salvia sclarea

This biennial or perennial herb grows up to 3ft. high. It is closely related to garden sage and Spanish sage. The plant has large hairy leaves and a sensual looking flower that is pink, blue, or purple.
The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the flowering tops and leaves. It is native to southern Europe. The oil is considered a euphoric and is said to exaggerate the effects of alcohol. While many books state that clary sage should be avoided during pregnancy, according to Essential Oil Safety by Robert Tisserand and Tony Balacs, it is a safe oil to use. However, one should always use care and follow your physicians recommendations.

Clary sage oil is clear to pale yellowy-green with a sweet, nutty, herby odor. It blends well with juniper, lavender, geranium, cedarwood, sandalwood and many spice oils. It is considered a middle note when used in perfumery, however, it's odor intensity is medium to high.

During the Middle Ages clary sage was used for digestive disorders, kidney disease and as a general nerve tonic.

The hormonal properties of Clary sage oil make it helpful during menstruation and menopause. It helps with cramps, pms, and hotflashes.

Clary sage oil is rejuvenating and inspiring. It is a wonderful oil to use when doing creative work or during a crisis.
